Fine Gael North Cork Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed an increase in funding of more than €741,000 to bring the total funding allocation in the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Budgetary Plan for 2019 to more than €10.2 million.
Cllr O’Shea has also welcomed the proposal to increase outdoor Council staff by 12, with funding in place for eight permanent and four seasonal staff outlined in the draft budgetary plan presented to member in recent days.
“I am pleased to see the increase in funding contained within the municipal district’s draft budgetary plan for the coming year, pushing the total budget for the schedule of works over the €10 million mark.
“Our budgetary plan takes into account everything from road transport & safety, water services, environmental services, recreation & amenity, agriculture, education, and health & welfare in the Kanturk/Mallow area. An increased budget gives us as a municipal authority more scope to improve public services and this must be welcomed.
“The inclusion of 12 additional outdoor staff, eight of whom will be permanent with four extra seasonal staff, is also very welcome. We’ve experienced shortages in outdoor staff in recent years and this has been sorely felt across the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, so I am pleased to see that we are in a position to hire new staff for 2019 and beyond,” Cllr O’Shea.
