O’Shea Welcomes Increased Regional and Local Roads Budget for Cork in 2020

Cork North West Fine Gael General Election candidate Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the increased budget for Cork County Council’s regional and local roads budget for 2020.

There is a total allocation of €57,884,935 million for 2020, an increase of more than €7 million on 2019. More than €30 million has been allocated for restoration improvement works throughout the County in 2020, with more than €10 million set aside in the discretionary grant budget.

Cllr. O’Shea said 28 bridges have been included in the 2020 Bridge Rehabilitation Works on regional and local roads, while 23 regional and local roads have been included in the Council’s 2020 Safety Improvement Works. These include Boola Junction, south of Bweeng (€20,000), Convent Cross, Rylane (€30,000), Hospital cross in Mallow to Lackaroe cross in Liscarroll (€35,000) and Kanturk, mini-roundabout (€15,000).

Cllr. O’Shea commented: “I welcome the increased allocation for this year’s regional and local roads budget, up 15% from 2019. This will allow the Council to carry out more works on our roads, whether it be restoration improvement or maintenance, bridge rehabilitation, safety improvement works, drainage works, or community involvement schemes.”
