Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the commencement of works installing bus shelters throughout the North Cork area which includes Kanturk, Newmarket, Millstreet & Buttevant.
Welcoming the works, Deputy O’Shea said “It is great to see works commenced on the new bus shelters throughout North Cork. A lot of our current bus stops do not have shelters presently and it is hugely important we cater for people sheltering from the weather while they wait for the next bus. It is also important to see these works making our bus stops more accessible for people with mobility issues. These bus stops will now also cater for the rural transport service (Local Link) which covers all North Cork. I know these works will be welcomed by all in the respective areas as the provision of bus shelters and better accessibility for all has been raised with me regularly in my role as a public representative”.
These works are being funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and delivered by Cork County Council.
North Cork is set to benefit from a number of public transport enhancements over the coming months & years with additional services being added as part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan. There are plans to provide a new enhanced daily service from Newmarket to Mallow via Kanturk in 2025 which will connect the three towns and its services.
Deputy O’Shea added “As we encourage more people to avail of public transport, it is important that we provide the infrastructure with it to support them. This is done by providing more bus services, more accessible bus stops and bus shelters. I will continue to work with the NTA & Cork County Council in providing this infrastructure for everyone in Cork North West”.
