Planning Process to Commence on New Link Road in Kanturk

Planning Process to Commence on New Link Road in Kanturk
Cork County Council will tomorrow, 27th January 2017 commence the statutory planning process to construct a new link road for the North Cork town of Kanturk.

The new link road which will be approximately 340 metres in length will provide access for all road users from Bluepool Upper and Strand Street to Mill Road. The proposed works include the construction of the link road, installation of footpaths and cycle tracks, surface water drainage, public lighting along with ducting of services.

Welcoming the commencement of the planning process, North Cork Independent Councillor John Paul O’ Shea said “I am extremely pleased the planning for the new link road is proceeding today. The new link road has been much talked about for sometime now and today is a new chapter for Kanturk. The town of Kanturk is a busy country market town and is often congested with traffic that needn’t necessarily be going through the town centre. This road will allow a link to access other parts of the town without driving through the town centre”.

Cork County Council has recently granted planning permission for a new national school in Kanturk on Mill Road and have also granted planning permission for a housing development and commercial sites which are located in Upper Bluepool. Cllr O’ Shea added “This link road will allow ease of access to the new school and other recently approved commercial and housing developments in the area. It will also allow Kanturk to further develop other zoned lands in the near future as set out in the new Cork County Council Local Area Plan for Kanturk”.
