Did you know your patients can now renew or apply online for a medical card?
The National Medical Card Unit is encouraging service users to use the new medical card online service.
- This new online service allows people aged 16 years and over to apply online for a medical card.
- For the 1.4 million people eligible for a medical card or a GP visit card, they can now also review their eligibility online.
Benefits of new online service
1. Applicants can submit all supporting documentation digitally, including photographs of relevant material.
2. Avoids the need for a General Practitioner (GP) of choice to sign and stamp the relevant section of the application forms.
3. Complete application will be processed in 15 working days.
This new and exciting development fulfils a key strategic objective by making it as easy as possible to apply for eligibility under the General Medical Services (GMS) scheme.
