Renters in Cork Benefit from Tax Credit
Dec 03, 2025
Over 33,000 people in Cork have benefitted from the rent tax credit, and the numbers continue to grow since it was introduced, Fine Gael TD for Cork North West John Paul O’Shea has said.
Deputy O’Shea said: “It’s really positive to see that renters in Cork are availing of their tax credit, which is putting money back in people’s pocket. However, its clear many haven’t made their claim for 2025 yet. Figures provided from the Department of Finance show that while 33,090 from Cork claimed their renters tax credit in 2024, only 9,990 so far have made their claim in Cork in 2025. I strongly encourage those eligible who haven’t claimed their rent tax credit for 2025 to do so and apply so they don’t miss out on the valuable support”.
Revenue says it does expect the numbers to rise in the coming weeks and months as most claims for credits by PAYE taxpayers take place after the year-end, and it is expected that the bulk of claims for 2025 will not be made until 2026.
The Rent Tax Credit has been available for tax years since 2022 and is worth a maximum of €1,000 euro to renters, while for jointly assessed married couples or civil partners it is worth up to €2,000.
Deputy O’Shea added “No renter should leave this money behind. The process to apply is simple and puts money back into renters’ pockets.”
