Cork County Council has confirmed to Local North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’ Shea this week that three specific areas on the N72 Mallow to Killarney Road are to undergo major pavement improvement works later this year. The areas involved are as follows;
- Church Hill, Cullen
- Ahane Bridge
- Ballymaquirke
Welcoming the works Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “this is very welcomed news for the N72 Mallow to Killarney Road and for the local people and road users who use this section of road on a regular basis. These sections of the N72 have been in very poor and deteriorating rapidly in recent months. I look forward to these works proceeding as quickly as possible and making it safer and easier for all to commute on a daily basis”.
Works are currently out to tender for the three specific areas. Tenders are due back in the coming weeks and it is hoped the works will commence before year end. Cllr. O’ Shea added “The N72 is the main road from Mallow to Killarney and we must ensure this road is upgraded along with the other national roads in our County. Many of our visitors to Cork commute on this road during their travels to towns like Kanturk and other tourist attraction areas in the Duhallow region and it is important they can do so safely along with the local commuters”
