North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed news that four local community organisations
Dromahane Community Park Group lead the way with an allocation of €104,700 for the development of a walkway and running track in their new Park. Funding has also been allocated for Newmarket GAA (€26,000) for a multi sports playing area. Lee Valley Rowing Club has been allocated €12,000 for the purchase of Rowing Boats and Oars while Mallow Basketball Club has been allocated €1,400 for updating their existing basketball boards.
Cllr. O’Shea welcomed the funding for these groups by saying “This is the initial tranche of funding from the Sports Capital Fund to applicants deemed invalid in 2017, so it’s very welcome news that these community groups are now benefitting from the scheme. The Sports Capital Fund has been a major source of funding organisations in North Cork, and indeed throughout Ireland, over the years and this latest announcement is very welcome.
“All of these organisations have worked hard to put plans together for expanding their facilities and broadening their scope, which in turn increases participation and community involvement. All of this has positive knock-on effects for their communities and for people living right across North Cork. I wish them well in their respective projects and I look forward to seeing their facilities enhanced over the coming months.”
