North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has today welcomed confirmation from the HSE that the successful tenderer has been chosen to carry out Phase 1 of the extension and refurbishment to Kanturk Community Hospital.
The successful tender is Tralee based construction firm Eamon Costello (Kerry) Ltd. The official contract will be signed in the coming week with works to commence on site in late August/early September. The total project cost for the extension and refurbishment (design, construction etc.) is set to be in the region of €16m.
In welcoming the successful tender process, Cllr. O’Shea said “Today very much marks a new era for healthcare in Kanturk with the letter of acceptance for the Hospital’s refurbishment and extension being issued. Full planning permission has been granted for the development by Cork County Council and it is great to see works advancing here now”.
In Phase 1, the bed capacity will increase again in Kanturk Community Hospital with 43 beds available to the community once works are completed. I am also very pleased to say that in planning this development, the HSE has future proofed the site so as to extend the total number of beds at the Hospital to 77 beds in future phases.
Cllr O’Shea added “it is very welcome to see that further progress is now being made in Kanturk. There is wonderful care being given to all residents at Kanturk Community Hospital by the very dedicated staff and management at the Hospital and it is important the facility is upgraded so this level of care can continue and we can enhance the number of beds available to the community of Kanturk and surrounding areas”.
