Traffic Calming Works to Proceed in Freemount Village

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul  O’Shea has welcomed the announcement that Cork County Council, in conjunction with the National Transport Authority (NTA), have been approved funding for road improvement and traffic calming works in Freemount Village.

Welcoming the works, Deputy O’Shea said “Cork County Council recently approved a plan for traffic calming and improved pedestrian safety for Freemount village after consulting with the community. The funding approved this week comes to over €250,000 in value and will complete Phase 1 of this project. This phase will include new footpaths and build outs in the vicinity of the junction with the Tullylease Road, blacktopping of road in this location, installation of ramps & the provision of a pedestrian crossing along this stretch of the road. This investment represents a significant commitment to improving our local infrastructure in Freemount”.

Local Fine Councillor Aileen Browne also welcomed the works stating “I am delighted to see the first phase of these works getting the go ahead. These works will not only enhance road safety but also promote safer walking and cycling for all residents. I along with John Paul have been working closely with Cork County Council officials and the NTA over recent months to secure this funding, highlighting the pressing needs of your community. I am pleased that our collective efforts have yielded such positive results”.
