Uisce Eireann To Replace 420m of Leaking Watermains in Freemount

Uisce Eireann To Replace 420m of Leaking Watermains in Freemount

The people of Freemount in North Cork can look forward to a more secure and reliable water supply with Uisce Éireann prioritising important works to reduce high levels of leakage in the area and improve the resilience of the network.

Works will take place around Noonan Park and Allow Place area of Freemount, including the installation of new service connections from the public water main to property boundaries. The project is due to begin next week and finish in March 2026. Once complete, customers can expect a more reliable supply with fewer disruptions. Ward and Burke Construction Ltd will carry out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area. Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.

Details of any supply interruptions associated to this project will be updated regularly on the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website.

Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project.

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea said: “I would like to thank the people of Freemount in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works. We know based on previous experience that the short-term inconvenience will be outweighed by the long-term benefits of a reliable water supply.”

Jack Cronin, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann said: “The works in Freemount form an important part of our national drive to reduce leakage and build a stronger, more resilient water network. By upgrading ageing infrastructure, we are helping to provide communities with a dependable water service that supports them every day. We know how important a reliable supply is, and we fully appreciate the impact recent outages have had on local households and businesses. This upgrade is being delivered with the community’s needs at its core — helping to reduce future disruptions, improve service, and strengthen the network for many years to come.”
