Village of Lyre gifted lands by Cork County Council for the development of amenities

Cork County Council has this week agreed to dispose of lands in their ownership to Lyre Community Culture Sport & Leisure Association for the future development of amenities in the village.

Welcoming the announcement, local Independent Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “The disposal of these lands to Lyre Community Culture Sport & Leisure Association is a major development in securing the future potential of the ever expanding village of Lyre. The development of community facilities for the village of Lyre has always been a priority for me and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in bringing this to a successful conclusion”.

The site which is just over one acre in size is situated in the centre of Lyre village and will be a tremendous asset to the local community. The lands are located directly alongside the new community hall which was completed in 2011 and is currently in full operation and is a haven of activity. The village of Lyre which is located approximately 27KM west of Mallow and 13KM from Kanturk is set in a unique rural setting on the foot of the Boggeragh Mountains.

Cllr. O’ Shea concluded “Lyre has experienced a high level of residential development over the last five years which in turn has created the need to further develop amenities in this quaint village. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Lyre Community Culture Sport & Leisure Association and other voluntary organisations in the area in further developing amenities in the village”.

The new lands gifted to Lyre Community Culture Sport & Leisure Association are adjacent to the new Lyre Community Hall.
