2021 Streetscape Enhancement Scheme for Charleville – Grants up to €8,000 Available

Cork County Council is pleased to announce the 2021 Streetscape Enhancement Scheme for the town centre of Charleville.

This scheme is aimed at improving the visual appearance of our urban streetscapes, increasing pride and confidence in our hometowns and villages, making them more attractive places to live, work and do business.

Welcoming the announcement for Charleville, local Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea said “The scheme is part of Our Rural Future, the Government’s five-year strategy to revitalise rural Ireland and includes a commitment to upgrade and enhance shopfronts and street facades in our rural towns and villages. It is funded by the Department of Rural & Community Development and I want to encourage owners of all commercial and residential properties with the Town Centre of Charleville to apply for this funding”.

Eligible Premises

Commercial, residential, or unoccupied buildings in town centre location.

Grant Rates

·       70% for Individual premises – matched funding 30%

Tenants or owners of businesses in Town Centres can avail of a grant up to 70% of cost of works carried out by a registered contractor.

·       80% for Joint applications (groups of 3 or more adjacent premises) – matched funding 20%

·       100% of cost for materials only where it is proposed the tenant/owner will undertake the works themselves.

The support level available depends on a number of factors including the number of applications seeking funding under the Scheme and type of works/proposal.

Eligible Works (Maximum 8,000 per building)

Green enhancement of entrances/ terraces with planting

€500

 

Painting of building/shopfront in carefully selected colours which will complement the host building and streetscape.

Mural (agreed in advance with Local Authority)

€1,500

 

Decluttering and repair of shopfronts. (Decluttering can include such works as removing unnecessary signs, flagpoles, wiring etc.)

€2,000

 

Careful illumination and lighting of architectural features of buildings.

 

4,000

Improvements to shopfront window displays and staging.

 

4,000

Replacement of signage with traditional wooden fascia with wooden/hand painted lettering OR contemporary design.

 

4,000

Canopies/Awnings complementary to the materials of the shopfront and building (including street furniture).

Replacement of existing shopfront with traditional painted wooden shopfront OR contemporary design

Key Dates

·       7th September 2021 – closing date for applications

  • 21st September 2021 – Submission of Budget & Applications to Department
  • 1st November 2021 – Works Completed & Drawdown Submitted to Cork County Council
