O’Shea Welcomes Additional EV Charging Points Along N72 and N73 – Including Banteer Community Sportsfield

Cork North West Fine Gael TD, Deputy John Paul O’Shea, has warmly welcomed the announcement of new electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs to be installed along key regional routes, including the N72 and N73, as part of the Government’s ongoing investment in sustainable transport infrastructure.

Deputy O’Shea said the inclusion of Banteer Community Sportsfield and Park just off the N72, along with additional sites such as Hickeys in Rathmore, Herlihy’s Centra in Mallow and O’Riordan’s SuperValu in Fermoy, marks an important step forward in making rural Ireland ready for the transition to electric vehicles.

“This is a very positive development for communities along the N72 and N73,” Deputy O’Shea said. “The addition of new charging stations in areas such as Banteer, Rathmore, Mallow, and Fermoy will make it easier for motorists to travel confidently through North and East Cork, while supporting our climate action goals.”

The N72 and N73 are vital regional routes linking communities across Cork and Kerry, and the rollout of new high-powered charging points will ensure that rural areas are not left behind in Ireland’s EV transition.

“Accessibility is key,” Deputy O’Shea continued. “By ensuring that smaller towns and villages have modern charging infrastructure, we’re supporting local businesses, promoting tourism, and making it more practical for families to make the switch to electric vehicles.”

Deputy O’Shea thanked the Department of Transport, the ESB, and local partners involved in facilitating the rollout and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring further investment in regional transport and climate infrastructure.

“I will continue to work with my colleagues in Government to ensure that Cork Nort receives its fair share of investment in sustainable infrastructure — not just for today’s motorists, but for the next generation,” he concluded.
