O’Shea TD Welcomes Key Land Acquisition in Dromahane to Deliver Much-Needed Housing

O’Shea TD Welcomes Key Land Acquisition in Dromahane to Deliver Much-Needed Housing

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has confirmed that Cork County Council has successfully completed a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) on almost two acres of land in the heart of Dromahane village, paving the way for the delivery of much-needed housing in the area.

The site, which has remained idle since the housing boom of the mid-2000s, is now set to be brought forward for residential development under the direction of Cork County Council.

Welcoming the development, Deputy O’Shea said this represents a significant step forward for Dromahane and the wider North Cork area.

“This is a very positive and long-awaited development for Dromahane. For far too long, this centrally located site has remained unused, despite its enormous potential to deliver housing in the heart of a vibrant and growing community,” Deputy O’Shea said.

“I commend Cork County Council for taking decisive action through the CPO process to unlock this land for the benefit of the local community.”

Deputy O’Shea emphasised the importance of ensuring that the development meets local needs, particularly for older residents.

“I would be particularly keen to see a portion of this site developed for housing tailored to older people. There is a clear and growing demand for age-appropriate housing within our communities, allowing people to downsize and continue living independently in the areas they know and love.”

“Providing such housing in a central village location like Dromahane would not only enhance quality of life for older residents but also help free up larger family homes within the community.”

Local Fine Gael Councillor Tony O’Shea also welcomed the announcement, highlighting its importance for the village.

“This is a hugely positive development for Dromahane and one that the community has been eager to see progress for many years. The fact that Cork County Council has now secured this site means we can finally move forward and deliver real housing solutions in the heart of the village. I fully support Deputy O’Shea’s call to include housing options for older people, which are badly needed locally.”

Deputy O’Shea added that he will continue to engage with Cork County Council to ensure that the development progresses without delay and reflects the needs of the local population.

“This is an opportunity to deliver a well-planned, sustainable housing development that strengthens the fabric of Dromahane village. I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to see this project come to fruition as quickly as possible.”
