O’Shea TD Welcomes Investment in New Water Mains Infrastructure for Churchtown

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the announcement by Uisce Éireann of significant investment in water infrastructure in Churchtown, Mallow, describing it as a vital step in improving the reliability and resilience of local water services.

The project will see the replacement of ageing and damaged water mains along Egmont View and the L1322 in Sheens Forge, with approximately 820 metres of new, modern piping to be installed. The works, due to commence in early May and expected to be completed by June 2026, will help reduce leakage, prevent bursts, and ensure a more consistent water supply for homes and businesses in the area.

Welcoming the development, Deputy O’Shea said “This is a very positive investment for the people of Churchtown and the wider Buttevant/Mallow area. Residents and businesses have experienced ongoing difficulties due to aging infrastructure, including bursts and interruptions to supply. This upgrade will significantly improve reliability and reduce water loss, which is essential given the importance of protecting treated drinking water.”

He added “I particularly welcome the focus on modernising the network and future-proofing supply. This project will give much-needed confidence to the local community that their water services are being strengthened for the long term.”

Deputy O’Shea also acknowledged the broader work being undertaken by Uisce Éireann under its National Leakage Reduction Programme.

“It is encouraging to see real progress being made nationally, with leakage levels reduced significantly in recent years. Continued investment like this in rural communities is essential to ensure every household and business has access to a reliable water supply,” he said.

The works will also include the installation of new service connections from the public water main to individual property boundaries, ensuring improved connectivity for customers.

Deputy O’Shea concluded by encouraging residents to engage with the project. “I would encourage anyone with questions or concerns to contact Uisce Éireann directly or to follow updates as the works progress. While there may be some short-term disruption, the long-term benefits for the community will be very worthwhile.”

The project is being delivered by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd. on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
