O’Shea Welcomes Commencement of New Housing Development in Knocknagree and Calls for Planning to Begin on Phase Two

Fine Gael TD for Cork North West, Deputy John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the commencement of construction on the new social housing development at Cearnóg Chluain Each, Knocknagree, describing it as another positive step in addressing local housing needs while supporting the continued growth of rural communities.

The development, which is being delivered by Cork County Council under the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP), will provide seven new high-quality homes, comprising four one-bedroom homes, two two-bedroom homes and one three-bedroom home.

Deputy O’Shea said the project represents a significant investment in Knocknagree and will help more individuals and families remain in their local community.

“It is fantastic to see work now getting underway on these much needed homes in Knocknagree. Every new home delivered makes a real difference to families waiting for secure accommodation and also strengthens the long-term future of our rural villages.

“Knocknagree is a vibrant and growing community and developments such as this help ensure that people can continue to live, work and raise their families locally. I want to acknowledge the work of Cork County Council, the Department of Housing and J.D. Buckley Construction Ltd in bringing this project to the construction stage.”

Deputy O’Shea said that while the commencement of this phase is very welcome, it is important that planning for the next stage begins without delay.

“Housing demand across Cork North West remains exceptionally strong and I believe Cork County Council should now begin planning for a Phase Two expansion of this development in the weeks and months ahead. By planning ahead now, we can ensure there is no unnecessary gap between phases and continue delivering the homes our communities need.

“Government is making significant investments in housing, but we must continue identifying opportunities to expand developments like this where suitable land is available. Knocknagree has shown it can successfully accommodate new housing while maintaining its strong community spirit.”

Local Fine Gael Councillor Trish Murphy also welcomed the commencement of the development and said the homes will be eagerly awaited by many families in the locality.

“This is excellent news for Knocknagree and the wider Sliabh Luachra area. I know first-hand the level of demand that exists for housing locally, with a significant number of individuals and families seeking homes in the area. There will be no difficulty allocating these new houses once they are completed.

“While seven new homes are very welcome, they are only the beginning. I fully support Deputy O’Shea’s call for Cork County Council to begin planning for Phase Two now so that we can continue to build on this investment and provide more much-needed homes for local people in the years ahead.”

Deputy O’Shea concluded by wishing J.D. Buckley Construction Ltd every success with the project and said he looks forward to seeing the new homes completed and occupied as soon as possible.
