O’Shea Welcomes Major Broadband Milestone for Cork as Over 283,000 Premises Gain Access to High-Speed Fibre

Fine Gael TD for Cork North West, John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the latest milestone in the rollout of the National Broadband Plan, with more than 283,000 premises across Cork now able to benefit from high-speed fibre broadband.

The achievement comes as the National Broadband Plan has now passed 500,000 premises nationwide, representing significant progress in delivering world-class digital connectivity to homes, farms, schools and businesses throughout rural Ireland.

Deputy O’Shea said the continued rollout is making a real difference to communities across Cork North West.

“This is fantastic news for families, farmers, businesses and communities throughout Cork North West. Access to reliable, high-speed broadband is no longer a luxury – it is an essential service that allows people to live, work and do business in rural Ireland.”

“High-speed fibre broadband is helping people work remotely, supporting students with online learning, enabling farmers to embrace new technologies and giving local businesses the tools they need to compete and grow. It is also improving access to digital public services and helping to strengthen rural communities.”

Deputy O’Shea said Fine Gael had consistently supported the National Broadband Plan because of its importance in ensuring balanced regional development.

“Fine Gael backed the National Broadband Plan from the very beginning because we believe where you live should never determine the opportunities available to you. Every home, farm and business deserves access to reliable, world-class broadband.”

He also praised the work being carried out to continue expanding the network and committed to ensuring the rollout continues across Cork North West.

“I will continue working closely with Minister Patrick O’Donovan, to ensure the rollout continues at pace so that even more homes, farms and businesses across Cork North West can benefit in the months ahead.”
