Active Travel Funding Announced for Cork County for 2026

Very welcome news this morning with confirmation by the Minister of State in the Department of Transport Jerry Buttimer, along with his Government Department colleagues, has announced €360 million in Government funding for Active Travel and Greenways in 2026.

 

This investment is dedicated to the development of walking and cycling projects that offer safe, sustainable and healthy transport options to communities around the country.

Cork County will receive almost €22m for 2026. Some key local project approved include:

 

  • Active Travel within Towns and Villages in Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District – €220,000
  • Active Travel within Towns and Villages in Fermoy Municipal District (which includes Doneraile) – €220,000
  • Active Travel within Towns and Villages in Macroom Municipal District – €220,000
  • Active Travel within Towns and Villages in Bandon/Kinsale Municipal District (which includes Crossbarry) – €220,000
  • Active Travel within Towns and Villages in Skibbereen Municipal District – €820,000
  • Safe Route to School – St. Joseph’s Primary School, Macroom – €150,000
  • Safe Route to School – Coachford NS – €33,000
  • Safe Route to School – Balydaniel NS – €5,000
  • Safe Route to School – CBS, Charleville – €5,000
  • Safe Route to School – St. Lachteens NS, Donoughmore – €30,000
  • Safe Route to School – Knockaclarig NS, Rockchapel – €30,000
  • Safe Route to School – Ballyvongane NS – €100,000
  • Safe Route to School – Canovee NS – €28,000
  • Safe Route to School – Scoil Réidh na nDoirí – €100,000
  • Bus Stop and Shelter Enhancement Programme – €500,000
  • N22 Baile Bhuirne Macroom Active Travel Scheme – €200,000
