The village of Bweeng is this week busy planning the establishment of their very own community walkway after receiving funding of just over €66,000 from IRD Duhallow. The funding is provided as part of the Leader Rural Development Programme 2007 – 2013.
Welcoming the funding, local councillor John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) who is a board member of IRD Duhallow said “this is again great news for Bweeng and for the community it serves. Having just recently opened its new playground in the village, the development of this walkway will not only enhance the existing facilities there, it will also provide another key focal point within the village for the local people to exercise and interact within their community”.
The new walkway which will be in excess of 1.5KM in length will be put in place around the perimeter of the existing community hall, sportsfield, basket ball/tennis court & playground and providing an added extra feature to this ever expanding village. The walkway will also be lit up so it can be used all year round.
Cllr. O’ Shea added “Bweeng has a long history of community involvement with in excess of 20 active community and voluntary groups in the area. Bweeng Community Hall Committee who will be the leading group advancing the community walkway project has been in existence for over 50 years and has done tremendous work in developing the village over the years. I want to wish them every success with this new enthusiastic project”.
