Cllr. O’ Shea updates constituents on €20m investment in Regional Roads throughout North Cork between 2011 and 2013

As you are aware, many roads throughout North Cork were victims of the adverse weather conditions last winter and have left a huge amount of work to be done in order to restore our roads to a respectable condition.

As Chairman of the Mallow/Fermoy Area Roads Committee this year, I made it my priority that as we finish the 2010 road improvement programme, we put in place a plan for improving our roads over the next three years. This will ensure that both Cork County Council and you, the people living on these roads can have some indication of when improvements will be carried out in your locality. I am glad to report the plan has been produced in recent weeks and subject to the current level of funding approved by the Department of Transport, Cork County Council will invest more than €20m in our regional roads across North Cork between 2011 and 2013.

As you can imagine, I receive numerous requests on a daily basis to improve roads right across North Cork and have endeavoured to ensure the worst of these roads have been included in this programme. Also as Chairman of the Area Roads Committee, I ensured I had a significant input into the 2011-2013 Road Programme. Some of the roads that have been included in the 2011 – 2013 programme are as follows:

If your area is not mentioned above, don’t worry, I will endeavour to do as much as I can to include some other key roads annually if required. In the meantime, pothole repairing and the opening of inlets will continue and if you need my assistance in this regard, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Best,

John Paul
