Cork County Council has this week confirmed that the contract has been signed for the new premises which will accommodate the new library in Kanturk.
The new premises, located on Strand Street in Kanturk town will now allow for the re-opening of the Library in the North Cork town which was forced to close in the previous location due to Health & Safety reasons.
Commenting on the new development, North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’ Shea said “This represented good progress on the re-establishment of the library in Kanturk. I have no doubt the new premises will serve the community of Kanturk well over the coming years and I am looking forward to seeing the library staff back in Kanturk as soon as possible”.
Cllr. O’ Shea added “The library staff will now proceed to fit out the new library which will take approximately 8 weeks to complete. I want to take this opportunity to thank the library service and staff for accommodating the patrons of Kanturk Library in the nearby libraries in Newmarket, Mallow and Millstreet in recent months and for the mobile library in the area also. I look forward to seeing the library in Kanturk opened and welcoming all it patrons back again to Kanturk over the coming weeks”.
