Cork County Council and Emergency Services to Host Event for Older People in Mallow
Jul 02, 2025
The Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, is encouraging older people, their carers and families to attend a unique event with the emergency services in Mallow this month. ‘Safe and Connected’ will provide an opportunity to speak to local Gardai, Fire Service and ambulance personnel in a non-emergency situation.
The event takes place at the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow on Thursday the 17th of July from 10.00am to 1.00pm. There will be talks from An Garda Siochana, the National Ambulance Service and the Cork County Fire Service, as well as the Healthy Age Friendly Homes programme and AIB.

Mayor Linehan Foley said, “This wonderful event stemmed from discussions with Cork County Council’s Older People’s Council. They identified a desire among older people for closer engagement with their local emergency services, particularly the Gardai. Older people and their carers will be able to ask questions, receive information, and get to know the emergency services. We all want people to feel safe in their homes and to continue living in the community as long as they wish.”
Cork North West TD John Paul welcomes the event and encourages people to attend on the day with their family or carers. To meet with your local emergency services, It is an opportunity for you to discuss safety and any issues or concerns you may have. it is important for you to feel safe within your community.
There will be information stands run by each of the agencies in attendance and refreshments will be provided. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn more about the Healthy Age Friendly Homes programme and how they can stay living in their homes for longer.
