Cork County Council Requests Submissions for Winter Art Exhibition
Aug 25, 2025
Cork County Council’s LHQ Gallery is inviting submissions for an annual open-call winter exhibition which will run throughout November and December 2025.
Cork County Council’s 2025 open-call winter show, “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think” will celebrate the thinking behind artworks. All art starts with an idea, whether that’s a rural landscape, a poem, a milking stool, or an abstract piece. Borrowing its title from the 1975 Dr Seuss book of the same name the exhibition describes the many ‘thinks’ one can think and the endless possibilities and dreams that imagination can create, real or not real.
This is the third year that LHQ Gallery will host an open call winter exhibition. “Small Things Like These” featured almost 100 works by 85 artists in 2023, and “Made by Hands” followed in 2024. LHQ Gallery is based in the County Library building on Carrigrohane Road. It is a space dedicated to visual arts for the people of Cork.
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Mary Linehan Foley, says, “This open-call show gives artists, craftspeople and makers an opportunity to show their work in our dedicated gallery space. We look forward to seeing the wide array of talented artists and makers from across the County of Cork exhibit their work at LHQ Gallery.”
LHQ Gallery welcomes applications of interest from artists and makers of all disciplines, small or medium in scale. The exhibition at LHQ Gallery will take place from the 3rd of November to the 19th of December. You can apply by submitting one or two works to be included in the open-call winter show. Works must be existing and can be 2D including: painting, photography, print, drawing, or mixed media. 3D works including ceramics, sculpture, textiles, books, etc. and multimedia works are also accepted. Works should be small or medium in scale.
Applications are now open and will close on the 28th of September. Apply at www.corkcoco.ie.
