€415,000 funding boost for community projects in Cork North West – O’Shea

€415,000 funding boost for community projects in Cork North West – O’Shea

A range of community projects in Cork North West will receive total funding of €415,715 to upgrade facilities which will benefit users of all ages, Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has said.

Cllr O’Shea said this funding, under the Community Recognition Fund, would make Cork North West a more vibrant place to live, work and visit.

“Minister Heather Humphreys has confirmed funding of €16 million to deliver 185 community projects throughout Ireland.

“Across Cork North West there will be major investment, supporting a diverse range of projects such as upgrades to sports facilities, community centres, parks, walking trails and playgrounds.”

The community projects in Cork North West include €58,215 for repairs and upgrades to the Trade Union Hall in Kanturk, €85,500 for the refurbishment of the Newmarket Afterschools & Community Training Facility, €72,000 for the upgrade of changing rooms at Millstreet Community School, €100,000 for Buttevant Playground, and €100,000 for the refurbishment of the Coolcower Picnic Area and the extension of the footpath to Coolcower House in Macroom.

“This is a significant investment in our local communities and will help bring new life to spaces that need redevelopment.

“This funding will help deliver high quality facilities for communities and will bring so much benefit to everyone in the area.

“I also want to congratulate the community groups who have been the driving force behind the successful applications and look forward to seeing the completed projects.

“Community groups should also be aware that the application process this year is being delivered across 3 phases. The next phase runs up to September 30th and the final phase up to January 31st next year, so it is important to engage with the local authority on what is needed for the community.

“Today’s funding allocation is the latest in a long line of initiatives and supports introduced by Fine Gael and Minister Humphreys aimed at making our towns, villages and cities more attractive places to live,” concluded Cllr O’Shea said.
