Eight sporting orgnaisations in Kanturk/Mallow area benefit from Sports Capital Funding

Eight sporting organisations in the Kanturk/Mallow area are to benefit from financial assistance under the Sports Capital Programme 2014.

The programme which is funded from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport is the main vehicle for supporting the development of sports facilities and the purchase of sports equipment.

Welcoming the funding allocations, Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District of Cork County Council, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “This is a very welcome announcement for sporting groups and organisations in the Kanturk/Mallow area. This funding will benefit greatly the many organisations who have worked extremely hard in recent months planning for such large infrastructural developments in their respective clubs and communities. All of these organisations have comprehensive plans in place to further develop their community facilities within their parish and while their existing facilities have served the community well over the years, the need for further enhancements and additional facilities within the grounds has been identified”.

The organisations allocated financial assistance in the Sports Capital Programme 2014 in the Kanturk/Mallow area is as follows:

  • Banteer Community Sportsfield – €12,000
  • Castlemagner GAA Field Development – €11,000
  • Churchtown GAA Club – €120,000
  • Mallow Camogie Club – €2,500
  • Mallow Handball Club – €110,000
  • Millstreet Community Council – €25,000
  • Newmarket GAA Club – €50,000
  • Newmarket Sports & Leisure Association – €15,000

Cllr. O’ Shea added “I have already seen the fruits of this programme in many parts of my own Electoral Area of Kanturk/Mallow as many of the recent refurbishments of sports halls, creation of new sporting facilities and development of new tennis courts for example is as a direct result of financial assistance received from the Sports Capital Programme. I am confident that the enthusiasm to progress these projects is very much to the fore of the organisations involved who also have the support of the community at large. I wish them well in their respective projects and I look forward to seeing their facilities enhanced in the coming months”.
