Eight towns and villages in Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District to benefit from 2019 Footpath Replacement Programme

Eight towns and villages within the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District is to benefit from Cork County Council’s 2019 Footpath Replacement Programme.

A total of €1m of funding has been set aside countywide for the footpath programme with almost €150k allocated to the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District.

Welcoming the allocation of funding to the specific towns and villages, Local Fine Gael Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea said “This announcement is very welcomed news and will go some way in addressing the deteriorated and substandard footpaths we currently have in the District. We re-established the dedicated footpath replacement programme in place in 2014 and since then, we can already see the benefits of the programme”.

Footpath replacement works will take place in the following areas during 2019:

Ballyclough – Section around Funeral Home
Ballyclough – Section between Church and school
Glantane – Section by “The Local Pub”
Bweeng – Section between Cluain Ard and Droimneach
Ballydesmond – Main Street (part)
St. Theresa’s Place/Harte Barry Place, Kanturk
Rockchapel Village (Section by the church)
Orchard Avenue, Newmarket (Section)
High Street, Newmarket (Sections)
Charlevillle Lane, Newmarket (Sections)
Main Street, Mallow (Slabs)
West End, Mallow (Section)
Beechwood Park, Mallow (Section)
Dromore Drive, Mallow (Section)
Sandfield Terrace, Mallow (Section)
Lackanaloha, Mallow (Section)
Castle Heights, Mallow (Section)
Ballydaheen, Mallow (Section)
Church View, Mallow (Section)

Cllr. O’ Shea added “These works will improve greatly the specific areas in our District. While there are many more towns and villages that could benefit from funding for the replacement of footpaths, this is a good start and it is my view and intention to seek more funding in the coming months to continue this vital work for the people living within the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District”.
