FG Cork North West General Election candidate said the trails play an enormous role in our towns and villages
Funding of €177,000 for 21 walking trails in Cork will be a major boost for communities across the county, Fine Gael General Election Candidate for Cork North West Cllr. John Paul O’Shea has said.
The announcement was made by Fine Gael’s Minister Heather Humphreys, with the €1 million investment set to support 517 walking trails in the country.
Cllr. John Paul O’Shea, Fine Gael General Election candidate for Cork North West said:
“Walkways and trails are a blessing for communities in Cork, providing an outlet to get fresh air, exercise, connect with neighbours and friends and boost our mental wellbeing.
“We all became so familiar with these walking trails during COVID lockdowns, and there is no doubting their valuable contribution to Cork’s towns and villages.
“In Cork, we are fortunate to have such committed community organisations, and I am delighted that this funding will support them to maintain and upgrade the walking trails.
“This will allow for crucial investment to be made in the walking trails, including the purchase of important equipment, or carrying out small scale maintenance works.
“The funding will also support the promotion of the trails as tourist attractions, which will provide a welcome economic boost for the wider communities across Cork.
“I look forward to walking these trails in the coming weeks and months and seeing their continued success,” Cllr. O’Shea concluded
