Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Declan Hurley is urging the people of Cork to come and enjoy the fantastic line-up of events organised for Heritage Week 2017. The week, which is coordinated by the Heritage Council and part of the wider European Heritage Days Programme, takes place in Ireland from August 19th to 27th 2017 and with over 2,000 events nationwide, Heritage Week 2017 promises to be the best yet.
Speaking of Heritage Week 2017, Mayor Hurley said “The county of Cork has an exceptional quality of natural heritage, from our lakes and river valleys to our mountains and woodlands, with a coastline stretching over 1,000 kilometers. Thanks to a wonderful network of Heritage Groups within the County, this natural heritage is being brought into the spotlight, where locals and visitors alike will enjoy being active, having fun and learning about the natural world on our doorstep. Throughout the week I would encourage young and old alike to participate in the many different events on offer.”
The theme for Heritage Week 2017 is ‘It’s in your Nature’, where the country’s natural heritage will become the main focus of events. Heritage Officer for Cork County Council Conor Nelligan highlighted that close to 160 events have been organised across 60 different locations, throughout Cork County. “The line-up of events for Heritage Week 2017 is inspired, thanks to the wonderful efforts of numerous event organisers and active heritage groups in the County. It is a great week to explore our heritage and the majority of events listed are free of charge and suitable for all the family”.
Each year Cork County Council produces a Heritage Week County Cork Events Guide to promote these wonderful events. This is now available throughout the County in Tourist Offices, Libraries, Area Offices, Museums and in a number of other outlets. The Events Guide can also be posted out upon request (email conor.nelligan@corkcoco.ie with your address and a copy will be posted to you).
