HSE to Progress Refurbishments at Kanturk & Millstreet Community Hospitals

HSE to Progress Refurbishments at Kanturk & Millstreet Community Hospitals

North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’ Shea this week welcomed an update he received on the refurbishment of both Kanturk & Millstreet Community Hospitals.

Kanturk Community Hospital has had a full design team appointed and is due to seek planning permission for a complete refurbishment by the end of 2018. Millstreet Community Hospital is currently completing Phase 1 of its refurbishment and their design team is currently reviewing existing layouts and accommodation in line with HIQA requirements and it is envisaged planning permission will be sought for Phase 2 of the refurbishment in early 2019. Both hospitals must adhere to the Health Information & Quality Authority National Standards for Resident Care Settings for Older People.

Welcoming the progress on the refurbishment of both Community Hospitals, Cllr. O’ Shea said “The news of confirmation that the refurbishment of both Kanturk & Millstreet Community Hospitals are now proceeding is indeed a very welcomed development. The design and layout of the Hospitals for the future care of the elderly in the area is a critical part of this process. Both Hospitals currently play an integral role in the care of the elderly in their respective communities and the HSE must ensure that both these refurbishments proceed as soon as is practically possible. The care provided in the Community Hospitals is second to none and we must ensure we support the residents of the Hospitals, their families and the staff as we go through this process”.

Cllr. O’ Shea added “I will be working with my Fine Gael colleagues Cllr. Gerard Murphy and Minister Michael Creed, (TD) in ensuring that the HSE progresses these vital refurbishments to both Kanturk & Millstreet Community Hospital over the coming months. Quality residential care must continue to be available in both Kanturk & Millstreet towns through our Community Hospitals for those who need these facilities”.

Concluding Cllr O’Shea said, “I would also like to take this opportunity to commend the work of the staff and management of both hospitals, their work provides a vital service to the patients, families and communities across North Cork”.
