Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development to discuss Child Poverty and Poverty

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 October, at 9:30am to discuss matters relating to Child Poverty and Poverty.

 

The meeting in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House will be split into two sessions to hear from:

9:45am – Officials from the Department of Social Protection;

10:45am – Representatives from the Community Platform and Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

 

Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy John Paul O’Shea said: “In the first session the Committee will focus on child poverty with officials from Department of Social Protection. The agenda will include updates from the Department on child poverty issues and a key feature will be discussion on the recently announced revised targets.

 

“Our second session will cover both child poverty and poverty issues with representatives from the Community Platform and the Society of St Vincent de Paul. The meeting also coincides with the United Nations (UN) Day dedicated to the eradication of poverty which is on Friday, 17 October.”

 

The Joint Committee on Social Protection, Rural and Community Development has 14 Members, nine from the Dáil and five from the Seanad.
