The Business and Farming Community of Millstreet who were recently affected by the 28 day Boil Water Notice on their Water Supply are to receive up to 40% discount in their upcoming bill.
Irish Water has confirmed this week to local Independent Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea that given that the Boil Water and Drinking Water Restriction Notices in the case of Millstreet deemed the water supply to be unfit for human consumption, Irish Water will apply a discount of up to 40% on the customers water supply component of their next bill.
A Boil Water Notice was issued on the 19th May last on the advice of the Health Service Executive to all users of the Millstreet Public Water Supply due to detection of low levels of Cryptosporidium. Areas affected were Millstreet Town, Ballydaly, Laught, Drishane, Keale. The Notice was lifted on the 14th June following completion of works to installation of a UV disinfection system on the supply.
Cllr. O’ Shea said “The recent boil water notice had a significant effect on the business and farming community in Millstreet. As you can imagine, it can be hard for anyone to survive without water for a day, never mind nearly a month so I believe it is only right and proper that customers of Irish Water will have a discount charged for the 28 days they were without water on their next bill. Customers will not need to do anything to receive this discount, it will automatically be applied to the bill covering the specific period”.
