O’Shea Highlights Community Centre Investment Fund 2026

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has encouraged community groups across Cork North West to prepare for the upcoming Community Centre Investment Fund 2026 – Refurbishment Scheme, which will support the enhancement and development of vital local facilities.
Deputy O’Shea said the fund represents an important opportunity for communities to upgrade and modernise their centres, ensuring they remain at the heart of local life. “Community centres are the backbone of our towns and villages, providing a vital space for social interaction, recreation, and essential supports. This funding will help ensure these facilities remain accessible, safe, and fit for purpose for years to come.”
Deputy O’Shea also welcomed the strong commitment from Government to invest in community infrastructure and acknowledged the role of Minister Jerry Buttimer in advancing the scheme.
Funding Categories
The Community Centre Investment Fund 2026 – Refurbishment will provide grants under two categories:
Category 1: Small-scale projects and improvements from €10,000 to €25,000
(Minimum 5% match funding required)
Category 2: Larger-scale projects from €25,001 to €100,000
(Minimum 10% match funding required)
Eligible Works
Funding is available for a wide range of capital works, including:

Building and renovation works such as extensions, refurbishment, modernisation, flooring, electrical and plumbing

Installation or replacement of essential building equipment (e.g. kitchens, bathrooms)

Energy efficiency upgrades

Equipment rental for works (e.g. machinery)

Professional fees (up to 12.5% of project costs)

Labour costs for qualified tradespeople

Accessibility improvements for people with disabilities

Fire safety and regulatory compliance works

Electrical, gas and heating system upgrades

Equipment to support ongoing use of the facility (e.g. appliances, furniture, sensory equipment)

External lighting for safety

Storage solutions
-
Painting and signage (including Irish language signage)

Toilets and shower facilities
Deputy O’Shea added “I would strongly encourage all eligible community groups to begin preparing now. This funding can make a real and lasting difference in improving facilities that serve people of all ages.”
Application Process

Groups are encouraged to register in advance of the application opening

The application portal opens 29th May 2026

Closing date for applications is 13th July 2026

Information sessions and support clinics will take place from April through July
Groups that have applied previously do not need to re-register but should ensure their details are up to date. Deputy O’Shea concluded by saying “This is a valuable opportunity for communities across Cork North West to invest in their future. I would urge all interested groups to engage with the process and avail of the supports on offer.”
