O’Shea TD welcomes €277,633 for Cork County Community Groups under Local Enhancement Programme 2026

Deputy John Paul O’Shea TD has warmly welcomed the announcement that Cork County will receive €277,633 under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026, describing it as a significant investment that will strengthen local community organisations and volunteers across Cork North West.

The funding forms part of a national €7 million programme announced by Minister of State Jerry Buttimer TD and Minister Dara Calleary TD, which will support more than 4,100 community projects throughout the country.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy O’Shea said “I am delighted to see Cork County receiving almost €278,000 under the Local Enhancement Programme. These grants may be relatively modest in size, but they make a tremendous difference to the day-to-day work of community groups that are at the heart of towns and villages across Cork North West.»

“Whether it is a community hall, youth organisation, men’s or women’s shed, sporting club, residents’ association or voluntary group, these organisations depend on dedicated volunteers who give so much of their time to improve the lives of others. This funding will help them purchase essential equipment, improve facilities and continue providing valuable services within their communities.”»

Deputy O’Shea said the programme demonstrates the Government’s continued commitment to supporting grassroots organisations.

“Strong communities are built from the ground up. The Local Enhancement Programme recognises the enormous contribution made by volunteers and community organisations and provides practical support where it is needed most.

“I want to congratulate every successful group and thank all those involved in community and voluntary organisations throughout Cork North West. Their commitment, generosity and community spirit make our towns and villages better places to live.”

Deputy O’Shea also acknowledged the work of Cork County Council and the Cork Local Community Development Committees in administering the programme.

He added “Community organisations are the backbone of rural Ireland. This funding will help ensure they can continue delivering services, organising activities and bringing people together. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these grants will have right across Cork North West in the months ahead.”

Deputy O’Shea encouraged all successful applicants to proceed with their projects and thanked Minister Jerry Buttimer and Minister Dara Calleary for securing continued Government investment in local communities.
