Fine Gael TD for Cork North West, Deputy John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the completion of a €40,000 upgrade to the car park and visitor facilities at Finnanfield, Kilcorney, at the foot of Musheramore Mountain.
The project, which was supported with €40,000 in funding under the Government’s Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), involved the upgrade and repair of the existing base car park at Kilcorney which is known as Seefin Car Park. The location serves as the principal access point for the popular Musheramore Mountain Trail and also forms part of the renowned Duhallow Way and Blackwater Way walking routes.
The completed works also include the installation of a new visitor information map, directional signage and important safety and warning signage for walkers using the trail network.
Welcoming the completion of the project, Deputy O’Shea said “I am delighted to see these important works now completed at Finnanfield. This €40,000 investment is a significant enhancement to one of Cork North West’s most popular outdoor recreation destinations.”
“Musheramore attracts walkers, families and visitors from across the region throughout the year. The upgraded car park, together with the new information board and safety signage, will make the area more accessible, more welcoming and safer for everyone using the trails.”

Local Fine Gael Councillor Gerry Healy also welcomed the completion of the project.
“This is a wonderful improvement for the Musheramore area and for everyone who enjoys walking and exploring our beautiful countryside. The Finnanfield car park is the starting point for many visitors, so these upgrades will greatly improve their experience from the moment they arrive.”
“I want to acknowledge the Government’s investment through the ORIS programme and the work of Cork County Council in delivering this project. I have no doubt these improvements will encourage even more people to visit the area while supporting local tourism and businesses throughout Duhallow.”
Deputy O’Shea concluded by thanking Cork County Council, the Municipal District Office and everyone involved in bringing the project to completion.
