O’Shea Welcomes Continued Rollout of Accessible Bus Stops and Shelters in Cork North West

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the continued rollout of new accessible bus stops and bus shelters across Cork North West, ensuring improved comfort and accessibility for passengers of all ages and abilities.

Among the areas set to benefit from the latest phase of works are Millstreet, Renaree, Kilnamartyra, Coachford and Kanturk, where new infrastructure will make public transport more accessible, safer, and user-friendly.

Deputy O’Shea also welcomed progress for communities in Cork’s Gaeltacht regions. Under a newly signed agreement between Age Friendly Ireland, Údarás na Gaeltachta and Cork County Council, accessible bus stops and shelters will also be delivered in Ballymakeera, Ballyvourney and Ballingeary. This agreement highlights a strong commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive public transport services in Gaeltacht areas.

Speaking on the rollout, Deputy O’Shea said “This investment is a welcome development for the people of Cork North West. Accessible bus stops and shelters not only improve comfort and safety, but they also ensure that our public transport system is inclusive for everyone, particularly older people and those with mobility challenges. I am particularly pleased to see our Gaeltacht communities included in this initiative, which will greatly enhance connectivity and accessibility in these areas.”

Deputy O’Shea added that he would continue to work with the National Transport Authority, Cork County Council and community stakeholders to ensure further progress in expanding accessible transport options across the constituency.
