Cork North Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the announcement that Mallow town will receive €470,000 for town regeneration works under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund. The funding is being made available by the Department of Housing, Planning & Local Government under Project Ireland 2040. Mallow’s allocation comes under Category A of the Fund, which supports projects that are shovel-ready.
On Monday, An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, TD, and the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy, TD, announced that 88 projects are to be allocated a total of €100 million under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.
As a key part of Project Ireland 2040 – the Government’s National Planning Framework and National Development Plan – the fund will help to rejuvenate significant but underused areas in Ireland’s five cities and other large towns. It’s one of four funds set up under the National Development Plan 2018-2027, and is being implemented by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government. A total of €2 billion has been allocated to the URDF up to 2027, with €550 million available for between now and 2022.
“It’s very welcome that Mallow has been allocated €470,000 for town regeneration works under this Fund. Mallow is an important town in North Cork and within the Munster region. Allocations made through the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund will ensure that these urban areas remain attractive and vibrant places to live and work into the future. I look forward to seeing the works in Mallow commence in the very near future,” Cllr. O’Shea said.
