O’Shea Welcomes Intreo Work and Skills Events – Strong Focus on Cork Opportunities

O’Shea Welcomes Intreo Work and Skills Events – Strong Focus on Cork Opportunities

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has warmly welcomed the upcoming series of Intreo Work and Skills events taking place nationwide in March, with a particular focus on the two key events being hosted in Cork City.

Deputy O’Shea said the programme of events demonstrates a proactive approach by the Government in supporting jobseekers, employees considering a career change, and employers seeking to recruit talent across a wide range of sectors.

“I particularly welcome the two significant events taking place here in Cork,” Deputy O’Shea said.

The first Cork event, ‘Strengthen your Business – Strive for Inclusion’, will take place on 6th March from 12.30pm to 2pm at the The Kingsley Hotel. This event is aimed at supporting businesses in building inclusive workplaces and accessing the range of employment supports available through Intreo.

The second event, the ‘Work and Skills Careers Fair – Cork 2026’, will be held on 11th March from 11am to 1.30pm at the The Metropole Hotel. This careers fair will bring together employers, jobseekers and support services under one roof, offering practical advice, recruitment opportunities and direct engagement with companies who are actively hiring.

“These events are not just for people in receipt of a jobseeker payment. They are open to anyone seeking employment, exploring training options, considering an apprenticeship, or looking to return to the workforce,” Deputy O’Shea emphasised.

Deputy O’Shea also highlighted the important role played by Intreo, the Government’s public employment service delivered by the Department of Social Protection.

“Intreo provides a vital single point of contact for employment supports and income services. It offers tailored, practical assistance to jobseekers and valuable recruitment supports to employers. These Work and Skills events are an excellent example of that hands-on approach in action,” he said.

Across the country, the programme includes multi-sector recruitment fairs, apprenticeship events, hospitality and logistics recruitment days, CV and LinkedIn workshops, and virtual job fairs to ensure accessibility for people in all regions.

Deputy O’Shea encouraged anyone considering a new opportunity to attend the Cork events:

“This is a real opportunity for people to connect directly with employers, discover new career pathways, and learn about the training and supports available to them. I would strongly encourage jobseekers, those looking to upskill, and local businesses to engage with these events and make the most of what is on offer.”
