O’Shea Welcomes Latest Attestation of 167 new Gardaí – Cork & Southern Region to Benefit

Communities in Cork & the Southern Region will benefit from new Gardaí, Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has said.

22 new Gardaí will be allocated to the Southern Region from the latest attestation of gardaí with 5 of those gardaí being based in Cork. Stations in Mallow, Midleton, Togher & Gurranabraher will benefit in Cork.

Deputy O’Shea said these numbers show there is a strong interest to join and serve in An Garda Síochána. “I am delighted to see more Gardaí for Cork and the Southern Regions. A visible Garda presence is central to the government’s aim to build safe and secure communities. More Gardaí is one of the most effective measures we have for preventing crime and making people feel safer in their community.

Deputy O’Shea added “The next intake of up to 215 Garda trainees will enter the Garda College in Tipperary next Monday, 9th February. The Government are working hard to ensure the Gardai continue to have the resources and support they need to protect our communities. I’m very thankful to our new Gardaí for making a commitment to public service and to keeping people in our communities safe. I wish them the very best as they begin their careers with An Garda Síochána, concluded Deputy O’Shea.
