O’Shea Welcomes Opening of Campas Íosagáin in Baile Bhuirne

Deputy John Paul O’Shea TD has warmly welcomed the official opening of Campas Íosagáin in Baile Bhuirne, describing the new facility as a “transformational investment” for the wider Cork North West region and the Gaeltacht area of Mhúscraí.

The state-of-the-art campus was officially opened today by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary. The project represents a significant investment of almost €10 million, including over €3.4 million from the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

Welcoming the development, Deputy O’Shea said “This is a landmark day for Baile Bhuirne and the wider Mhúscraí Gaeltacht. The transformation of the former Coláiste Íosagáin site into a modern enterprise, training and research hub is a shining example of what can be achieved through vision, collaboration and sustained Government investment.

“Campas Íosagáin will play a vital role in supporting enterprise, innovation and job creation across Cork North West and beyond. The inclusion of a gTeic digital hub is particularly significant, providing opportunities for remote working, digital start-ups and attracting investment into rural communities.”

Deputy O’Shea also highlighted the importance of the facility in supporting education and skills development in the region.

“It is especially encouraging to see the continuation of the strong educational tradition on this site. By extending third-level and training opportunities into the Gaeltacht, this campus will help equip people locally with the skills needed for the modern economy, while allowing them to live and work in their own communities.”

The Cork North West TD acknowledged the role of all stakeholders involved in delivering the project, including Údarás na Gaeltachta and Enterprise Ireland, whose combined investment has been instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

“This level of partnership between Government departments and agencies demonstrates a clear commitment to balanced regional development. Projects like Campas Íosagáin are key to ensuring that rural and Gaeltacht areas continue to thrive. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this facility will have in the years ahead, supporting local businesses, fostering innovation, and strengthening the social and economic fabric of the region.”

Deputy O’Shea concluded by wishing every success to those who will use and manage the new facility, noting that it represents “a major vote of confidence in the future of rural Ireland and the Irish language community in Mhúscraí.”
