O’Shea Welcomes Planning Application for New Wastewater Treatment Plant in Castlemagner
Jul 10, 2025
Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has warmly welcomed the recent planning application submitted by Uisce Éireann for the development of a new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Castlemagner, marking a significant milestone in the village’s future development and environmental sustainability.
The proposed facility will amalgamate the two existing, outdated wastewater systems currently serving Churchfield Estate and Murphy’s Terrace. The new plant will not only provide a modern, reliable solution to meet the current needs of the community but will also support population growth and future development in the village over the coming years.
“This is a vital and long-overdue investment for Castlemagner,” said Deputy O’Shea. “For many years, residents have rightly raised concerns about the limitations of the existing wastewater systems. This new plant, once planning is approved and constructed, will ensure that our community is better served by modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible wastewater services.”
Deputy O’Shea commended Uisce Éireann for progressing this critical project and acknowledged the importance of planning proactively for rural communities to thrive. “Castlemagner is a close-knit and growing village. It’s important that infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of its residents and supports sustainable growth. This application is a positive step forward for the area and reflects a strong commitment to rural development,” he added.
“The planning application is now with the relevant authorities for consideration which I hope can be progressed as quickly as possible”, concluded Deputy O’Shea .
