O’Shea Welcomes Plans for Traffic Calming Works in Rockchapel

Cork North West Fine Gael TD, John Paul O’Shea, has welcomed the announcement by Cork County Council of proposed traffic calming works on the R576 at Rockchapel. The works are being brought forward under Section 38 of the Road Traffic Act 1994.

Deputy O’Shea said the plans will be an important step in addressing long-standing concerns around road safety and speeding through the village.

“For some time, the community in Rockchapel has sought improved safety measures on the R576, particularly through the village where traffic volumes and speeds have caused concern for residents, businesses and road users alike. “I warmly welcome the fact that Cork County Council is now progressing with these traffic calming proposals, which will help make Rockchapel safer for all.”

The drawings and details of the proposals are now available for public inspection at the Municipal Office in Newmarket and can also be viewed online in the Public Consultation section of the Council’s website. Members of the public are invited to make submissions on the plans up until Monday, 20th October 2025.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Trish Murphy is encouraging Rockchapel residents and businesses to review the proposals and have their say. “Community input is vital to ensure that the final scheme meets the needs of local people. I would urge residents, business owners and all road users to take the time to view the plans and make a submission before the closing date.”
