Plans Accelerate for New All-Weather Horse-Racing Track in Tipperary
Oct 22, 2025
A new all-weather track at Tipperary racecourse will be a major boost for the southern region’s economy, Fine Gael TDs have said.
Tipperary TD, Michael Murphy, and Cork North-West TD, John Paul O’Shea, said that much progress has been made on the proposed new development.
Horse Racing Ireland (HRI has submitted the Final Business Case for the project to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the proposal is currently under active consideration by the Department.
The Deputies said the proposal aligns closely with Horse Racing Ireland’s Strategic Plan 2024–2028 and with the Government’s broader objective of balanced regional development.
Deputy Michael Murphy said: “The submission of the Final Business Case marks a significant step forward for a project that has the potential to transform the southern region’s racing infrastructure. An all-weather track at Tipperary will allow for year-round racing and training, supporting jobs, strengthening tourism, and reinforcing Tipperary’s reputation at the heart of Irish racing.
“This project will be a tremendous boost for Tipperary town and the wider region. The economic and social benefits are clear, it will attract visitors, support local businesses, and create new opportunities for the community. It is a forward-looking investment that aligns perfectly with the region’s strong equine tradition.”
Deputy John Paul O’Shea said: “The horse racing and breeding industries are of huge importance to communities across Cork, Tipperary and beyond. This development would bring stability and growth to the sector, ensuring that Ireland continues to lead internationally. I would urge Government to move quickly to approve this proposal so that work can begin without delay.
“The all-weather track will future-proof Irish racing and deliver long-term benefits for rural Ireland. It is an opportunity that should be seized now.”
