Positive Step in Tackling Dereliction in Kanturk and Boherbue
Nov 06, 2026
I welcome the commencement of the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) process by Cork County Council for two derelict properties in North Cork, located at Egmont Place, Kanturk, and Main Street, Boherbue.
I have been working closely with Cllr. Trish Murphy on the issue of dereliction and the need to bring vacant and neglected properties back into productive use in our towns and villages. It is very encouraging to see this process now progressing in relation to these two properties.
Derelict properties have a negative impact on our town centres and communities. At a time when we need more housing and want to see our towns and villages thriving, we simply cannot afford to allow suitable properties to remain vacant and deteriorate indefinitely.
The CPO process is an important tool available to Cork County Council to tackle persistent dereliction, and I hope this action will ultimately lead to these properties being brought back into use.
I will continue to work with Cllr. Trish Murphy and Cork County Council to ensure that tackling dereliction remains a priority throughout North Cork.
Important Information:
The properties concerned are:
– Egmont Place, Kanturk, Co. Cork. P51RX86
– Main Street, Boherbue, Co. Cork. P51V9R7
Cork County Council has served Notices of Intention to Compulsorily Acquire both properties under Section 15 of the Derelict Sites Act 1990.
Any qualifying objection to the proposed acquisitions must be submitted to Cork County Council on or before 11th December 2026.
This is a welcome step towards revitalising our town centres and making better use of properties within our communities.
