Did you know that Ireland’s homes account for one quarter of Ireland’s energy related carbon emissions, with the average Irish home using 7% more energy than its EU counterparts? Inefficient homes are hard to heat, costly to run, are less comfortable and can lead to poorer health.
The good news is that SEAI offers home energy grants, funded by the Government of Ireland, to improve insulation and heating systems, as well as install renewable energy systems. SEAI have already supported over 400,000 homes to carry out energy upgrades. This map shows the homes upgraded by county.
SEAI has a range of grants for homeowners depending on their circumstances, property and requirements.
Home energy grants: Individual grants for insulation, heating controls, heat pumps and solar. These grants range in amount from €400 to €6,000 and typically cover around a third of the cost of the works in an average home.
Free upgrades for eligible homes: This nationwide scheme delivers free energy efficiency improvements to the homes of people who are in receipt of certain social welfare payments.
Deep retrofit: This grant supports homeowners who are doing a major renovation of their whole home and want to significantly improve the energy rating up to an A-rating. Successful applicants will receive a 50% grant towards the cost of energy upgrade works
