Tánaiste Encourages Irish Abroad to have their Voice Heard through Global Irish Survey

Tánaiste Encourages Irish Abroad to have their Voice Heard through Global Irish Survey

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris TD, is today encouraging Irish diaspora abroad, and those who have recently returned home, to complete the Global Irish Survey and have their say in the Government’s new Diaspora Strategy.

In order to understand issues of interest to the Irish Aboard, a series of consultations is taking place with Irish community groups and other stakeholders across the world and in Ireland.

The Government has launched the first ever Global Irish Survey to allow all members of the diaspora, and those who have recently returned home, to contribute to the Strategy.

Speaking on the importance of deepening our ties with the diaspora, the Tánaiste said: “Everywhere I travel, I have the opportunity to meet Irish citizens and those with an affinity for our country. I am always inspired by the contribution they have made to their new homeland as well as their willingness to work with me to strengthen ties with Ireland.

“In line with the commitment set out in the Programme for Government, work has commenced on a new Diaspora Strategy. Our priority is to ensure our relationship with the global Irish communities is a dynamic one that meets their needs and can also adapt to evolving circumstances.

“Ireland and the world have changed significantly since the launch of the last diaspora strategy in 2020 so I really want to hear from as many voices as possible so we can deliver a programme that supports our modern and diverse global Irish family.

“The first ever Global Irish Survey provides a platform for all our diaspora wherever they are, or even if they have recently returned home, to share their views on what is important for them and their community over the next five years.

“The response to our engagements has been overwhelmingly positive, so I would encourage all our diaspora to join the survey. Your insights will help shape our new strategy.”

Survey:

The survey can be found here: https://www.ireland.ie/en/irish-diaspora/global-irish-survey/ and is open until the end of August.

The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and is a mix of multi-choice questions and reflective spaces for more considered responses on key issues. All data supplied is anonymous, nothing personal is requested.

The survey will also form the baseline for future surveys with the intention to roll out the survey on a regular basis (for example, every 2 years) to build up a picture over time of interests and issues deemed important by our Irish communities overseas.
