Uisce Éireann set to Reduce Leakage in Glantane

Uisce Éireann set to Reduce Leakage in Glantane

The people of Glantane Village in North Cork can look forward to a more secure and reliable water supply with Uisce Éireann prioritising important works to reduce high levels of leakage in the area and improve the resilience of the network.

The works involve the replacement of over 850 metres of aging water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Glantane will commence in early June, with works expected to be completed by July 2025. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme. The works will be delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd.

Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area. Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. These works will also deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. Traffic management will be in place during this time, in the form of a Stop/Go system and automated traffic lights along the route from Monument to the Church and Thullery Cross in Glantane Village. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

The works may involve some short-term water interruptions, and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned supply disruptions.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.

Residents and businesses in the areas to benefit from the planned improvements have been notified directly.

Details of any supply interruptions associated with this project will be updated regularly on the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website.

Customers can phone Uisce Éireann on 1800 278 278, available 24/7, if they have any questions about the project.

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea said “I would like to thank the people of Glantane in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works. These upgrades are essential to ensuring a more secure and sustainable water supply. We know from past projects that while there may be short-term inconvenience, the long-term benefits for the community are substantial”.
