North Cork Fine Gael Councillor John Paul O’Shea has welcomed the news that a further 76 Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant applications have been approved across County Cork in Q2 of 2024. The Grant provides funding to support the refurbishment of vacant and derelict homes across the country.
The report, provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, also shows that a further 115 new applications were received by Cork County Council in the three months from April to June. This takes the total number of applications to 747, with 478 applications approved in County Cork to date.
Cllr. O’Shea said “I am pleased to see that the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant continues to be utilised in County Cork, where we have a large number of either vacant or derelict properties. Under the Grant, property owners are able to receive up to €50,000 in funding to renovate a vacant property and up to €70,000 if the property is derelict.
“The aim of the Grant is to increase the number of available residential properties in the State, including through the private rental market which as we know has experienced limited stock in recent years.
“There are thousands of vacant and derelict properties in County Cork which, thanks to this Grant, can be refurbished and brought up to a standard in which they can be lived in and rented out. I would encourage anyone who has a property that is eligible for the Grant to apply directly to Cork County Council,” concluded said Cllr O’Shea.
