Statement from Deputy John Paul O’Shea on Resignation of Paschal Donohoe as Minister for Finance

Statement from Deputy John Paul O’Shea on Resignation of Paschal Donohoe as Minister for Finance

I want to wish Paschal Donohoe every success as he steps down as Minister for Finance to take up the role of Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank Group.

Paschal’s appointment is a tremendous honour for Ireland and reflects the integrity, expertise, and calm leadership he has shown throughout more than two decades in public life. His steady stewardship during Brexit, Covid-19, and a period of global economic uncertainty has been invaluable, and the strength of our public finances today is a testament to his work.

For Fine Gael, Paschal has been an exceptional colleague and a key figure in Government for many years. His contribution to Dublin Central — from the Luas expansion to the TU Dublin campus and the NEIC Taskforce — speaks for itself.

On a personal level, I have always appreciated Paschal’s good humour, wise counsel, and unwavering dedication. Ireland is better for his service.

I wish him the very best as he takes on this important new role in Washington, and I have no doubt he will continue to make Ireland proud.
