O’Shea Welcomes Commencement of €64m Regional Garda Divisional HQ in Macroom

Cork North West Fine Gael TD John Paul O’Shea has warmly welcomed the commencement of construction on the new €64 million Regional Garda Divisional Headquarters in Macroom, describing it as a transformative investment for the town and for policing across County Cork.

The landmark project is being delivered by the Office of Public Works in partnership with the Department of Justice, and represents one of the most significant public infrastructure investments in Macroom in recent years.

The new state-of-the-art Divisional HQ will serve as a modern policing hub for the region, providing enhanced operational capacity, improved facilities for Garda personnel, and strengthened community safety services for Macroom and its wider hinterland.

Deputy O’Shea said “I am absolutely delighted to see construction now underway on the €64 million Regional Garda Divisional Headquarters here in Macroom. This is a hugely important project for our town and for communities right across County Cork. Macroom is strategically located and serves a large rural and urban catchment. Establishing a modern Divisional HQ here reinforces the town’s role as a key administrative and service centre for the region.”

The facility will provide modern accommodation and operational space for members of An Garda Síochána, ensuring Gardaí are equipped with the infrastructure necessary to meet the evolving demands of policing. The project forms part of the Government’s broader capital investment programme under the National Development Plan, which is delivering unprecedented funding for justice and security infrastructure nationwide.

Deputy O’Shea also acknowledged the appointment of JJ Rhatigan & Company as contractor for the project and welcomed the employment opportunities that will arise during the construction phase. “Beyond the obvious policing and public safety benefits, this development will also deliver significant economic activity locally during construction. It is a strong vote of confidence in Macroom and in the wider Cork region.”

“This state-of-the-art facility represents a long-term investment in policing, community safety and public infrastructure. I look forward to seeing the project progress and to its completion, which will mark a new chapter for Garda services in Macroom and across County Cork, concluded Deputy O’Shea.”
